A Collectors’ Treasure

Original Publications of L. Ron Hubbard’s Stories and Articles

Between 1934 and 1951, L. Ron Hubbard wrote more than 200 stories of adventure, western, detective, suspense, aviation, military, romance, science fiction, and fantasy. These were circulated to millions through pulp magazines.

A “pulp magazine” is printed on coarse, non-coated paper, published during the first half of the twentieth century, and issued in frequencies ranging from weekly to quarterly with variations in size and page count.

The development of high-speed printing presses and the availability of cheap woodpulp paper revolutionized publishing in the late nineteenth century. And other technological advances made the lives of the working class easier allowing for more leisure time for things such as reading. Since hardcover books were still relatively expensive, publishers turned to magazines as vehicles for content. In 1896, these all-fiction magazines were born.

Pulp fiction exerted a tremendous influence on American popular culture. Pulp magazines introduced us to fictional characters including Tarzan, Zorro, Buck Rogers, and Conan the Barbarian, to name a few. Bestselling authors who gained popularity in the pulps included Edgar Rice Burroughs, Max Brand, Ray Bradbury, Louis L’Amour, Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler, and L. Ron Hubbard.

While L. Ron Hubbard wrote swashbuckling adventure, daring science fiction and rugged western, he continued his more serious research into the mind and life. And in 1950 and 1951, LRH released early Dianetic articles to his fans through the Astounding Science Fiction magazine. Then some of the first advertisements for Dianetics appeared in many of these magazines.

We are making these original publications available in exquisite custom presentation cases.
