L. Ron Hubbard’s fiction works at San Diego Comic Con

For Over Three Decades, San Diego Comic Con Has Provided Successful Discovery of L. Ron Hubbard Fiction Books

San Diego, CA / July 22, 2026

In an age when social media’s continuous barrage of products makes the discoverability of a book seem impossible, live interaction with fans remains the best way to engage readers. For over three decades, the fiction works of L. Ron Hubbard and the acclaimed Writers of the Future series have been showcased at the San Diego Comic Con, one of the largest consumer conventions in the U.S., and demand for Hubbard’s titles has continued to increase each year.

Once a book has been published, discoverability becomes the next biggest hurdle. Conventions like San Diego Comic Con not only offer direct engagement with hundreds of thousands of potential fans but also provide publishers with valuable insights into a rapidly evolving  publishing landscape. 2025 saw an increase of over 32% in books published, with 4,172,222 registered titles published in the United States, according to Bowker, as published by Publishers Weekly.

This past weekend, the Galaxy Press booth attracted a steady stream of avid readers eager to explore science fiction, fantasy, and pulp fiction from the 1930s and ’40s, alongside modern short stories in the Writers of the Future anthology series. “Battlefield Earth, written by L. Ron Hubbard in celebration of 50 years as a professional author, remained our bestseller,” stated John Goodwin, President of Galaxy Press. In addition to readers discovering the book for the first time, fathers and grandfathers were telling the next generation how much they enjoyed it.

One such Battlefield Earth fan, Owen Cotter, Founder of SciFiction.com, visited the Galaxy Press booth and stated in an interview, “This is Battlefield Earth. If you’ve not read it, read it. They’ve got a great audiobook, too. I highly recommend it. They’ve got all kinds of cool stuff here to check out. Everything from science fiction, Westerns, pop culture, pulps, pirates, anything and everything.”

Goodwin continued that the Writers of the Future series, now with over 1,000 writers and artists published over its 42 years in existence, were the next best-selling books, “Not only do Writers of the Future provide great science fiction and fantasy, but scores of aspiring writers and artists see the Contests as a means for themselves to be discovered and gathered information to enter the Contests.”

L. Ron Hubbard created the Writers of the Future Writing Contest in 1983 to provide “a means for new and budding writers to have a chance for their creative efforts to be seen and acknowledged.” Based on its success, its sister contest, Illustrators of the Future, was created five years later to provide that same opportunity for aspiring artists.

Galaxy Press was established in 2002 to meet the growing demand for the fiction works of bestselling author L. Ron Hubbard and publishes his complete fiction library, including the New York Times bestsellers Battlefield Earth, Mission Earth series, Fear, Final Blackout, and To the Stars. The annual L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future anthology, featuring new authors and artists selected by two panels of blue ribbon judges, is likewise published by Galaxy Press.
